Manchester was also an industrial city which made cotton its own, giving its collective name to bed linen and bath towels, but the city has had a rough and tumble track record. The key to its survival has been its willingness to embrace change and encourage the spirit of enterprise and innovation.

Bouncing back from the 1996 bombing which destroyed its inner heart, the city seized the opportunity to revamp the town centre with new public spaces and some imaginative modern architecture that actually works. The city’s industrial heritage has translated into prime real estate.

24 Canterbury, White Cliffs & Dover SOLD OUT

Canterbury, White Cliffs & Dover, Sunday 24th February (On sale from 24th January)
Price: £25

Canterbury is full of fascinating history. Between St Martin’s Church, St Augustine’s Abbey and the Cathedral where Thomas Becket was gruesomely murdered back in 1170, there’s plenty of past to delve into on our tour of Canterbury. Pilgrims and visitors have made their way to Canterbury Cathedral since the Middle Ages. It remains one of the most visited places in the country, and, just as important, a living community. Following on from Canterbury we then head to the White Cliffs of Dover, which are one of this country’s most spectacular natural features. They are an official Icon of Britain and have been a sign of hope and freedom for centuries. You can appreciate their beauty and enjoy their special appeal through the seasons by taking one of the dramatic cliff top walks offering unrivalled views of the busy English Channel and the French coast. After you’ve admired the beauty of the Cliffs we then make our way to Dover Castle, one of the largest castles in the country, strategically located at the shortest crossing point to continental Europe, Dover Castle has played a prominent part in national history. Its origins lie in the Iron Age, and a Roman Lighthouse and Anglo-Saxon church can still be seen within the grounds.

Tour includes:
Return coach travel with Anderson Tours
Fully guided walking tour of Canterbury
Canterbury Cathedral Entry
Dover Castle Entry
Services of an Anderson Tours Group Leader

Departure time: 08.00AM at ISH 229 Great Portland St. W1W 5PN
